Detailed Programme - Monday, 4 June

Coach will pick up the Irish players at 9:30 a.m. from the Comfort Inn, Kensington - Clive will be there from 9.00 a.m.). The coach will drive to the Kensington Close Hotel to pick up the Italian team at approx 9.40 a.m. The coach will then drive to the Roehampton Tennis club where the Irish and Italian teams will be dropped off. The coach will continue to the Richmond Hill Hotel to collect the German team at approx 10.15 a.m.

Tennis will start at 11.00 a.m. on grass courts. There will be singles and doubles. Play finishes at 5:00p.m.

There will probably be a court for supporters who wish to play. The spectator facilities are very good with a swimming pool, restaurant and bar and TV. The lounges are very comfortable.

For spectators who would like to make a local trip, the 43 hectare London Wetland Centre is a 15-20 min walk away. It is the best urban site in Europe to watch wildlife, an international award winning visitor attraction and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Richmond Hill and Kew Gardens are other local sites which are a short taxi drive away. See links for websites.

Please bring your evening clothes (smart/casual) as the coach will take us directly from the club to Clandon Park for our welcome meal, leaving Roehampton Club between 6.00 and 6.30 p.m. Clandon Park is a Palladian mansion, about 25 miles from Roehampton, and has beautiful grounds.

We will finish at about 10:00p.m. The coach will take you back to your hotels.

No tennis - visit to Windsor and Eton

Pick up Irish group at Comfort Inn at 9:30 a.m. then pick up Italian group at 9.40 a.m. Coach then drives to Richmond Hill Hotel to pick up German group at approx 10.15 a.m.

We have arranged a sightseeing trip with a guided tour of Windsor Castle, then a break for lunch (not organised but there are many restaurants, cafes and shops). In the afternoon a tour round Eton College. We hope to see the boys in their tailed coats and even top hats!! It is a very old school with wonderful architecture.





We will leave Windsor and Eton at about 4:30, arriving at the hotels by say 5:30, subject to traffic!!





There is nothing organised for the evening to allow those who want to go to shows etc. the freedom to do so.

Wednesday, 6 June

Tennis: Coach will pick up the Irish players at 9:30 a.m. from the Comfort Inn, Kensington. The coach will then drive to the Kensington Close Hotel to pick up the Italian and Hungarian teams at approx 9.40 a.m. The coach will then drive to the Roehampton Tennis club where the Irish, Hungarian and Italian teams will be dropped off. The coach will then drive to Richmond Hill Hotel to collect the German team at approx 10.15 a.m.

Tennis will start at 11.00 a.m.

We will leave Roehampton at about 6:00p.m. to go to a boat on the River Thames for a meal and a cruise on the river. Please bring your evening clothes, (smart/casual - the ladies might wish to bring a shawl or similar, as it might be a little cold standing on on deck). Eating will be inside.

Please note: Welcoming drinks and wine with the meal are provided and there will be a well stocked bar on board but it is cash only, plastic (credit cards) is not accepted

We will pick up the coach and be back at your hotel by about 11:00 p.m.

We will stay at Roehampton Club for the farewell meal, presentations and speeches. Please bring your change of clothes with you - jackets would be appreciated. There will be music and those who would like to dance will have the opportunity.

We would expect the coach to leave leave by about 12:00 midnight arriving back at the hotels between 12:30 a.m. and 1.00 a.m.

This will be the end of the formal tour but we of course encourage you to stay on to see more of London or the United Kingdom.

History of the Tournament

The English Lawyers played their first match over fifty years ago in 1954 or '55, against the Bar at the All England Tennis Club at Wimbledon on hard courts. A match against Irish lawyers followed and other matches in the London area, including matches against the Houses of Lords and Commons.

The late 1950's brought the first match against the Swedes. This was followed by play against the Romans in Italy and then the Germans. There was one visit to play against French lawyers in Montpelier. The latest team to join was the Hungarians and in 2005, the hosted an excellent (if damp!) tournament in the beautiful city of Budapest.
